Laughing Penguins

memory

Days and thoughts packed willy-nilly:

warm days thrown

carelessly

upon frosted mornings, rain-burnished

thoughts of love

hiding in a grey

misty evening, a whiff of a

nighttime melody and that day when the sun

dropped into my lap or the time when

my heart beat in my cheeks – orange noons,

red-pink sunsets flying away on crows’ backs –

or those

stricken days

hesitating in the

driveway – unsure whether

they lived or

died …

or belonged in a dream.
