Gian Lorenzo Bernini, December 1598 to November 1680, is one of the most influential artists of all time. Millions of tourists each year come to Rome and Vatican to admire Bernini’s artworks. Rudolf Wittkower said that Bernini laid the foundation of a new conception, thus, his sculptures not only expressed a single viewpoint with energetic actions, but also presented the transitory moment.

Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne sculpture is a perfect example for this new concept. Daphne turned back horror as she felt the hand of Apollo, but she was not aware of the simultaneous transformation of her own body.
