Gioji temple is a small temple, and it is very famous about the tragedy dancer sister Gio and Gijyo. They were patronized by the power Kiyomori Taira in 12 century. One day, a dancer Hotoke-gozen wanted to meet Kiyomori, but he refused to meet her. Gio felt pity for Hotoke-gozen, and Gio asked Kiyomori to see her performance. Once he saw her, he changed his favor to Hotoke-gozen from Gio, so he ejected Gio and Gijyo in his palace. They cried and despaired to become nuns. They lived this temple, and pray sutra every day. Hotoke-gozen also felt vanity for this world and life, so she decided to become nun here. “The tale of Heike” told that Hotoke-gozen was only 17-year-old.
